The fact that leading a high-performing team is challenging is an established theory. Nowadays, it is expected of the executives not only to manage the digital transformation, but also to deal with the problems in the field of cybersecurity, supervise the implementation of the AI, crisis management, and many others. It is no surprise, then, that although leaders make a lot of decisions, they might feel that there is no time to think about them.
The first instinct of the leader is to begin working harder, but that strategy does not seem to help either.
Starting with Sustainable Leadership
The fact that executives feel overwhelmed does not help the entire company, since the decision-making process slows down, the communication becomes reactive and people don’t have any clear understanding of the priorities. While people are busy, this is not a synonym for productivity.

The key to achieving sustainable productivity is for the executive team to focus on the work which can only be done by them. Moving operational responsibilities from the shoulders of the executives to people under their supervision and calling less meetings gives executives more time for the strategic decision-making process.
Create Systems Instead of Heroes
There are businesses, which have succeeded in creating systems where the leaders can always be reached, check emails even late at night and never take time off. This kind of dedication creates problems with the functioning of the business.
Using sound leadership practices will relieve executives from the necessity to resolve every issue. Due to the ability to act on their own and decide when to look up to their supervisors employees will feel more autonomous.
There exist periods when extra effort is required, for example, during mergers and acquisitions, cyber incidents, or product launch.
Sustainability means avoiding a situation when the process becomes the norm for the company.
Organizations, which have a long-term view of their productivity, see leadership potential as a powerful and effective tool.
High-performance leaders do not spend long hours at work, but those who are able to create teams, which can reach their potential.
