The evolution of leadership today is changing at remarkable rates, often appearing obvious and yet difficult to articulate. The use of artificial intelligence (AI) has evolved from being a passive assistant to participating in decision-making processes.
The Tension Between Speed and Judgment
Unquestionably, AI systems offer efficient, predictive and sometimes alternative angles for leaders.
The challenge that AI presents as a partner to you as a leader is determining where human judgment belongs alongside such capable machines.
For instance, look at the logistics industry. Many logistics companies have started using AI to optimize route delivery by analyzing patterns, while providing superior overall efficiency. However, during times of disruption or unanticipated outcomes AI cannot recognize.

Leaders must learn how to integrate both human and AI resources rather than replace one with the other. When to trust the machine or when to question it is an element of human judgment that cannot be replaced by AI.
Avoiding the Two Extremes
There is furthermore a psychology of leadership. Some leaders are uncomfortable depending on an AI recommendation while other leaders are quick to trust the AI recommendation. Both rely on the biases of their personal experiences and therefore involve risk.
Finally, when an AI decision-making model is used, the team will view how a leader engages in making AI-based decisions (either poorly or optimally). If their leader dismisses AI, it becomes difficult to get team buy-in. If they rely on AI without using critical reasoning, the overall critical reasoning ability of their teams will deteriorate. However, AI systems are constantly evolving so as a leader you are required to set an example for your team in how to use AI tools effectively.
Continuous learning (training) is crucial for effectively incorporating AI as part of your decision-making process. Understanding both the AI technology itself, as well as its limitations, enables you to maximize the benefit from AI integration.
Setting the Tone for Your Organization
The uncertainty is what causes issues with leading teams while integrating AI systems. Technology is changing daily. No use case is static, as AI systems continually evolve. For these reasons, effective leadership will no longer require certainty but rather the ability to become an adaptive and flexible leader.
Therefore, perhaps the greatest revolution is not technological, but rather behavioral; leading with AI requires a leader to feel comfortable leading by partnership.
